Welcome to Layer 8’s cookies policy which forms part of our Platform Terms and Conditions (the Platform Terms). This policy supplements (and its terms apply in addition to) any other terms of use or other terms and conditions agreed between you and us from time to time, including the Platform Terms and any Customer Contract. Capitalised but undefined terms have the meanings given in the Platform Terms.
Our Platform uses cookies to distinguish you from other users of our Platform. This helps us to provide you with a good experience when you use our Platform and also allows us to improve our Platform and Services.
A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers that we store on your browser or the hard drive of your computer if you agree. Cookies contain information that is transferred to your computer's hard drive.
- How Does our Platform Use Cookies?
- Our Platform may place and access certain first party cookies on your computer or device. First party cookies are those placed directly by us and are used only by us. We use cookies to facilitate and improve your experience and navigation of our Platform and to provide and improve our Services. We have carefully chosen these cookies and have taken steps to ensure that your privacy and personal data is protected and respected at all times.
- By using our Platform, you may also receive certain third party cookies on your computer or device. Third party cookies are those placed by websites and/or parties other than us. Third party cookies are used on our Platform for analytics, advertising and tech support purposes. For more details, please refer to section 4 below.
- We use the following types of cookie:
- Strictly Necessary Cookies
A cookie falls into this category if it is essential to the operation of our Platform, supporting functions such as logging in to secure areas of our Platform and payment transactions. These essential cookies are always enabled because our Platform won’t work properly without them. You can switch off these cookies in your browser settings but you may then not be able to access all or parts of our Platform.
- Analytics or Performance Cookies
It is important for us to understand how you use our Platform, for example, how efficiently you are able to navigate around it, and what features you use. Analytics cookies enable us to gather this information, including to recognise and count the number of visitors and Users and to see how visitors and Users move around our Platform, helping us to improve it and your experience of it (for example, by ensuring that Users are finding what they are looking for easily).
- Functionality Cookies
Functionality cookies are used to recognise you when you return to our Platform. They enable us to provide additional functions to you such as personalisation and remembering your saved preferences (for example, your choice of language or region). Some functionality cookies may also be strictly necessary cookies, but not all necessarily fall into that category.
- Targeting Cookies
It is important for us to know when and how often you visit our Platform, and which parts of it you have used (including which pages you have visited and which links you have visited). As with analytics cookies, this information helps us to better understand you and, in turn, to make our Platform and advertising more relevant to your interests. Some information gathered by targeting cookies may also be shared with third parties for this purpose.
- Persistent Cookies
Any of the above types of cookie may be a persistent cookie. Persistent cookies are those which remain on your computer or device for a predetermined period and are activated each time you visit our Platform.
- Session Cookies
Any of the above types of cookie may be a session cookie. Session cookies are temporary and only remain on your computer or device from the point at which you visit our Platform until you close your browser. Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser.
- Except for essential cookies, all cookies will expire after maximum 24 months.
- For more details of the personal data that we collect and use, the measures we have in place to protect personal data, your legal rights, and our legal obligations, please refer to our Privacy Policy.
